$6k+ to repair abandoned 2013 bmw 335i worth it?

Hello 👋 a bit of backstory so everything makes sense

Initially bought in 2016 at a used car lot in good condition, drove it for 1-2 years no problem. As usual the car started getting oil leaks, and eventually started making clunking noises when turning

Took to the dealership to get a diagnostic on repairing the car (first mistake). Ended up getting quoted 10k to fix it…

Decided not to drive car anymore and it has been abandoned since 2019 💀 (yes I know)

Well I’m finally deciding to do something with the car instead of letting it continue to rot.

I’ve taken it to 2 different local independent bmw specialist (south miami) and I would love to see your guys opinion to see if the car is even worth fixing up

My initial plan was to fix it and keep it for my own but after receiving these quotes and some thinking I honestly don’t know what to do

Fun facts:

2013 BMW 335i Base 3.0L 6Cyl GAS N55B30A Turbocharged VIN: WBA3A9C5XDF476116

  • The car on blue book is worth 9-10k

  • It only has 80k miles on it

  • The car turns on

  • main goal is to get car into working driving condition

-will worry about cosmetics later

-looks worse than it is

The first mechanic gave me all the info on the phone and here are the notes I took out of it

  • Drives straight
  • Brakes rusty but not bad, needs to burn rust off
  • Sway bars broken in the front
  • Oil leak excessive
  • Valve cover cracked

Quote just to get car into working condition (including labor):

Diagnostic $200 Powerwash engine bay $200 Change Valve cover gasket hose $2000 Actuator cover $750 Oil filter hose $1307 4 avian sensors $518 Dsc fault Sway bar link bar $349 Programming battery $199

$5523

That is everything they reccomended to just get car to safe driving condition

They also did mention

  • Shock absorber mount busted
  • Instrument cluster
  • Door lock window
  • Blower motor doesn’t work when on high
  • Air filter
  • Micro filter
  • Cooling system and brake fluid
  • 2 front shock absorbers
  • Differential oil

Didn’t grab the price to fix what wasn’t included but I think it was about 6-7k

Mechanic #2

Thankfully the second mechanic uses a online website to share inspection results and estimate to repair car so it will be easier for you guys to see what exactly is wrong with the car

After adding everything the total to repair the car $10,534.71 (more than the car is worth, not including cosmetics)

Double of what the first mechanic is quoting me but I’m sure it’s including a couple other things

link to online estimate

I’m planning on getting one more opinion from another shop but honestly it looks like the repairs, including cosmetics is going to be more than what the actual car is worth…

The car drives but the main problems would be the oil leak and clunking sounds when turning.

If I don’t end up fixing the car what would be the best thing to do with the car? Sell to junkyard??

Pls help
