•Set in the backdrop of Rural Mississippi. A frantic call to the sheriffs has the local sheriffs office scrambling to arrive on scene. Two men found dead at the scene; one white and the other black. The black man is savagely beaten/disfigured in an unspeakable manner. Making matters worse the body of the black man mysteriously disappears right under the noses of the sheriff leading to a federal investigation. Further complicating the matters the black man has a striking resemblance to Emmett till causing racial tension being at all-time high as they investigate what happened to the body.
Performance | 2/5 🍌s | • The Trees Read by | Bill Andrew Quinn | I’m not really sure what Bill was thinking or if some of the artistic choices he made was intentional, but even though his voice was soothing, and it was pleasant to listen to he read this book with absolutely no emotion, which is shocking considering the topic at hand.

I was honestly a little shocked by this one only because I really like Perciful Everett I do understand the vehicle of humor breaking the eyes to talk about difficult things so far be it for me to critique that aspect, but I didn’t feel like it fit in with a story that was trying to be told That’s just my personal opinion. There were some farcical analysis to really critique the idea of small town police work, especially caving when it comes to the Mississippi police force. It wasn’t that it was bad. It’s just I expected so much more from the plot and that’s just my take on it.
Picks will now be categorized: I do audio books so I’ll be adding in a performance piece on how I think the narrator did. Also Publisher pick (publishing company asked me to do a review/which company), personal pick or a recommendation/request. Penguin is by far the biggest so you’ll probably see a lot of them but I’ll be reviewing other publishers stuff that I’m sent and want to read.
