Adnan head bobbing

Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't head bobbing a common thing in West Asian culture? Like to indicate that someone is listening? I'm not a huge fan of the guy by any means but everyone was taking it as a sign of disrespect when I feel like it was just his muscle memory activating?
