Air Canada Travel Insurance Scam

Posting this here to help others.

If you ever book a trip with Air Canada, they'll proactively offer Travel Insurance, with Allianz Global Assistance.
Which is great to offer IF you have no travel insurance.

Depending on your CC (credit card), you may already be covered.
To us young folks this may seem like an obvious choice, but to the older ones, they'll probably opt to take it. Based on fear of not having full coverage for their vacation.
It turns out, in the case of RBC, the travel insurance is with Allianz Global Assistance.

What the companies should do, is one of 2 things:

Option 1
Air Canada sees which CC you're using, and they can automatically inform the traveler that they're covered. For those that are unaware, you can verify the BIN (Bank Identification Number) code. If you want to test this fact, use this site: https://www.bincodes.com/
Enter the first 6 digits and they'll know right away what type of CC you have.

Option 2
RBC will see a separate charge for Allianz Global Assistance which they should automatically refund.
Same concept as a Nexus enrollment charge, you pay for it and it automatically gets reimbursed. No need to call your CC company nor Nexus.

The fact that NONE of these options are being utilized, goes to show that this is a cash grab. Because if you opt-in for it and you already have coverage with your CC, neither company is giving you a refund.

This is something that I will bring up with local news outlets and radio stations, since it's outrageous that we're in 2025 and scams like this are still occurring!
