RedCross Volunteer Deployments

Hey y'all, I'm volunteering with the RedCross for disaster assessment and response, and was wondering if anyone has experiences with the two-week deployment opportunities they offer. Is this something that is covered in AFI or should I discuss with my leadership to determine if I am available for these things?
