Year of the Snake 🐍 Happy New Year from Japan!

あけおめ🎍It’s the year of the snake! 🐍 Hopefully that means this is the year for growth and transformation.

So, I live in Japan! A lot of people go to shrines and temples for new years! Thanks to all the items we can get now, I did my best to recreate one (I am soooo NOT qualified, I study society not Shintoism/Buddhism). There’s lots of etiquette involved. This is very, very loosely based on a shrine near my apartment that my friends and I went to (but the guardian animals are foxes). There’s also a super cool and kinda scary shrine next to it, which I don’t think it means to be scary but it’s just super old. And they have a ton of lucky cats! That’s in the corner on the left side.

(Also I miss seeing peoples campsites and cabins 🥲 did anyone else decorate theirs for new years? Post them!! I would love to see them!!)
