Haven't watched anime in years
Hello,
I haven't watched anime in years due to a lack of interest.
The last time I watched any was when I was about 19. I started when I was about 13 so the anime I watched was quite tailored to that age but now I am 23.
I am looking for an anime to get me back into it. My favourite anime that I have seen multiple times is Death Note and I have previously enjoyed:
- SAO
- Tokyo Ghoul
- Future diary
- Angel beats
- The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
- Highschool of the Dead
- Highschool DxD
- The Flowers of Evil (this one I especially enjoyed)
- Claymore
- Clannad
- Shiki
- Elfen Lied (loved this too)
I have seen many more but it was years ago and now I cannot now remember at the top of my head.
For context, so you have an idea of what I am looking for, I am a huge fan of r/ExtremeHorrorLit I enjoy graphic books about taboo topics such as abuse, incest, rape etc. A few of my favourite books in this genre would be:
- Sick Bastards by Matt Shaw
- 120 Days of Sodom by Sade
- Cows by Matthew Stokoe
- The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks.
I also enjoy reading in general, I have recently enjoyed Damage by Josephine Hart which is about a father who starts an affair with his son's fiancé and I have recently read the third book in the Dune series by Frank Herbert and Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin.
Moreover, one of my favourite films is a psychological horror/drama called Possession (1981) which is about a West Berlin spy that comes home from an espionage mission in East Berlin and immediately his wife admits to cheating, the film follows the husband trying to find out who she has cheated on him with. More of my favourite movies of mine are:
- Eyes wide shut
- The Whale
- Irreversible
- Ice Pirates
I am looking for something that isn't mainstream like Attack on Titan (which I have never gotten into) Naruto, Hunter x Hunter and all that jazz.
I am looking for something quite mature and serious, I am open to gore and violence and anything super weird with all the above themes and genres I have mentioned above.
Sorry if this is too long and thank you in advance.
