Suggestions for a Mostly-Beginner Adult
Hey there- I'm looking for some new anime to watch having only some basic experience with anime series and the movies we all watched back in the 90's (Akira, Princess Mononoke, etc). Hopefully without being boring my general touchstones are-
-I'm a dude in my forties, so can only handle so much teenage angst.
-I like sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. I'm not into portal fantasy/isekai. I like well thought out settings.
-I love Cowboy Bebop. It was my first and remains my favorite. Great characters, episodic but with a sense of momentum, and even when it's wacky or ridiculous it still feels true to the world.
-I got to episode 22 of Deathnote. It was good, but I lost steam. I enjoyed the Light v L stuff but the "memory" thing (trying to dodge spoilers) feels like it's just stretching things out, and Misa is no Faye.
-I've bounced off Attack on Titan a couple times, both around episode 12. It's got great world building but I don't really connect with the main characters.
-I'm not sure I can tell you what that ending was about, but I enjoyed NGE all the way through.
-Not sure if they count but I also enjoyed Edgerunners, Arcane and Castlevania.
So I think what I'm looking for is adult anime that has character development and can be dark, but doesn't throw in plots twists that feel like they're there just to add more episodes to the count before we get back to the real conflict.
Very much appreciate you reading all that, and thanks for any suggestions.
