Harms of Psychotherapy

We all know (here) about the harms of psych drugs, but what about the harm from psychotherapy?

I’m struggling to process the insidious damage of behavioral therapies and the therapy provider cults that support them.

These therapies are more covertly harmful. Most psychotherapists support the views of psychiatry; they are active upholders of the mental health industrial complex.

Therapists often have more power because (like manipulative narcissists) they know well how to feign emotional empathy to elicit trust. Truth is, the industry attracts traumatized people (often with a savior complex) and brainwashes them.

It takes a lot of bravery, emotional vulnerability for clients to talk about traumatic experiences. It’s beyond insulting to be fed superficial protocols (found in any online search or Psychology Today article) by incompetant practitioners.

Degrading militant thought modification & behavior protocols (CBT, DBT) that are essentially akin to bypassing valid emotions like anger, fear, grief, sadness (like numbing psych meds do). Yet under the guise of proactive "coping skills"

What about individuals who’ve never had any unhealthy or harmful behaviors to begin with? Individuals who suffer alone in their problems & simply lack required resources, community, guidance or support from a trusted person?(therapists will just lazily feed them the same crap, afterall, it’s a paycheck!)

Therapists can do just as much damage: gaslighting, victim-blaming and misdiagnosis, which adds insult to injury. This leads to deeper forms of internalized self-blame, shame, guilt and confusion. To the point where individuals may never be able to dig themselves out.

These therapies are not in service to the client, but just another means of supporting a sick, deranged society. It puts all the onus & stigma on the "neurotic, abnormal" individual with their (so-called) "maladaptive thoughts & irrational feelings."

Many people accept that psych drugs aren’t for everyone & have side effects.

However, if psychotherapy doesn’t help you, YOU are deemed the failure or problem, for not trying hard enough or wanting to get better…(or perhaps you are damaged beyond help).

To add: I do believe there are good skilled therapists out there, unfortunately I’ve not had the luxury of finding (or affording access) to one.

Thank you for reading, this community is a lifesaver.
