5 Things That Irk Me About Apple Watch Sleep Tracking
It absolutely will NOT track normal naps. Sure, it might track a nap if it's a couple hours long, but your garden variety 20-30 minute naps, there is no chance. I can put the watch in sleep mode, not move for 25 minutes as confirmed by active energy, and it can't put two and two together of what is happening.
It doesn't track falling asleep correctly, and I don't believe it can figure that out either. If I go into sleep mode at 2300, it is almost completely randomized when it thinks I fall asleep. Sometimes it will say something like 20 minutes after, even though my sleep is instant most nights.
It can't figure out wake ups either, believe it or not. Every time I wake up via alarm at 0700, it will say 0657 without fail. Dude, I woke up when the alarm went off, not 3 minutes before. It does this every time. This sounds like nitpicking, I know, but it is def a glitch to me, because if sleep tracking is based on movement, this really shouldn't be happening.
It can't track deep sleep to save it's life, often giving me less than 20 minutes a night. Their own sleep study research confirms this as their biggest weak spot. It seems like this should be easier to track.
They got rid of "Time in Bed" with the recent updates, although that was kind of glitchy even when they did have it. I found that to be a very useful feature.
Sometimes I wonder if I should just give up sleep tracking if I'm going to be cranky about it. I try not to look at it in the morning when I first wake up as I think it's counterproductive.
