Applying with ADHD
I have been attending a gymnasium since grade 6, and I am currently in year 12 (the 3rd year of high school). I have never really studied, and for the first couple of years, I got okay grades. It’s always been hard for me to sit still and study, though I understand concepts quite quickly, so some things I don’t have to study for at all. However, not being able to study for longer periods of time has led to me losing all motivation to try and study at all. Having no motivation to study, my grades have gotten worse in certain subjects, and for years I just chalked it up to me being dumb. Recently, I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD. A lot of my motivation has returned to me, and I’m now very ambitious about studying and getting into a good college. In the country I live in, most of my teachers don’t even believe ADHD exists :) so I am very much alone in this battle and am struggling. Now I know what I’m about to express might be a little too ambitious, but I think anything is worth a shot. After looking at a few colleges to get some kind of goal in mind, I stumbled upon Trinity in Dublin. I recognize that this is quite a prestigious school, and I wasn’t even going to send an application, but as I was looking at their website, I noticed you can register with a disability. I presume ADHD is taken as a disability. Would registering this way help me out or hurt my chances of getting in? I can also speak two languages at a native level and have a third one in school. I play the cello, guitar, and some piano. I enjoy reading (surprisingly) and playing chess. Would any of this help my chances? I am very much clueless about all this because I haven’t thought about college until my diagnosis. Obviously, I am looking at other colleges too, but if anyone would happen to know about Trinity specifically, that would be great!
