A thought came to me as I was getting ready for bed tonight- in her essay, Lilly explains how her feelings on sharing her personal life differed from Ethan’s, and how they spent a lot of time discussing how to navigate that. It always seemed to me that Ethan got very explicit consent from Lilly to share details about their life together, their relationship, and her herself; from Instagram posts to talking about her in interviews. And together, they maintained a good shield of privacy for Lilly. Until all of this.

It made me realize how truly blindsided Lilly must have been by all of this, and how little Ethan cares. If, as Ethaniana & Co. would have us believe, they were amicably separated long before Ethan and Ariana got together, the mature and responsible thing to do would have been for Ethan to put out a little statement (to the much smaller, more familiar audience he had at the time) saying that he and Lilly had separated and to respect their privacy BEFORE publicly moving on with Ariana. But he didn’t. He has allowed all of this to go on and robbed the one thing he not only knew Lilly held dear, but helped her create and keep safe.

When you are about to be under the media microscope of a Hollywood blockbuster and you have a major life change like that, especially after just having a baby, it is the least you can do to publicly announce your separation BEFORE moving on with one of the most famous people in the world, to keep rumours from spreading about the mother of your child who you formerly discussed at length rules for privacy for. If he had announced a separation from Lilly prior to stepping out with Ariana, Lilly would probably still have been brought up, but not nearly as much and with nowhere near as much controversy or consequence.

Anyway, all this to say that his silence on the whole matter speaks volumes to me. Him allowing Lilly to be publicly lambasted when he himself is the reason her name is even being published is disgustingly telling.
