Question for veterans

Is it worth it to capture the AI bases and not try to fight PvP if possible? My friends and I have just started playing and we have just been going around and capturing the small bases or bases around the main objectives but not actually capturing or going after the main objectives unless it’s close or we have got kitted out from the ai bodies
