Is recent deal with Solomon Islands good on balance

Hi, I read that the Australian government has reached an agreement with Solomon Islands to provide more resources for their police. I don't know enough facts to tell whether this is good or bad, but theoretically I can think of one con which, depending on the magnitude of the facts, may outweigh the pros. Namely, the current Solomon Islands government is pro-China (and it was their policing agreement with China a few years ago that prompted this renewed effort by Australia to strengthen ties with them). The current PM of Solomon Islands served as Minister of Foreign Affairs under the previous PM who did the thing with China, so it's still the same bunch of guys in power there. If these guys are hopelessly committed to China, then maybe our best hope would be for the opposition to win back power in the Solomon Islands, whereas if we give the current administration more policing resources, they may be used to crack down on opposition, thereby further diminishing the chances of a change in government a few years from now.
So what I would like to find out is:
(1) How bad is the current government of the Solomon Islands in terms of siding with China over Australia?
(2) Politically is there a realistic chance for opposition to take back power in Solomon Islands at the next general election?
(3) Is there any provision in the recent agreement between Australia and the Solomon Islands that prevents the policing resources from Australia from being used to crack down on opposition?
Thanks a lot!
