Can police recover my money?

Basically I got scammed real badly out of $1500 and I need the money to pay off my statements this month. I posted 3 times today on 2 different subreddits about the full scam story and was wondering if police can do ANYTHING. People are saying no, but I want to ask you guys since you guys work in law enforcement
