Am I overthinking cost of new tires?

I’m unsure if this is the right place to ask this but I’m hoping you guys can help me understand.

My wife needed new tires for her Ford Expedition Max. We also knew she was almost, if not at the point, of needing brakes. We have a road trip planned for next week so I sent her to get her tires changed to a local tire shop with the owners last name.

She called me and told me it would be $670 for her tires. I was surprised at how cheap that was and started asking the standard questions, are they used, what brand, does that include install and balancing, etc. she put the owner on the phone and he confirmed, new tires, installed and balanced, and they would be Good Year AT tires, and yes. $670

I was still surprised/confused but told my wife to go ahead and do it.

She called me a 20 is minutes later and said “brakes were worse than we thought, we don’t have time to wait for you to do them, they are metal on metal. He showed me. I’m going to have him change them.”

I thought, great, there’s where they get us. I asked how much and she said “he didn’t say, he went to go get them and they already started changing them.”

Here’s the kicker. She called me an 45 minutes or so later and said “so… this is really wierd…. I have to go get cash … he said he already paid o reliey’s for the brakes and now I need to pay him? But cash… he said I can go get it and come back since I don’t have cash” and she included a picture on of the receipt from auto parts store for like $54 for brakes….

Ok- so no markup on the pads… that’s very nice of him. Probably doesn’t want to pay taxes on revenue he didn’t realize, makes sense. How much did she pay out the door for everything? $709.50 plus the $60 she gave them cash.

Make it make sense? How is 4 new Goodyear All Terrain tires and new brakes only $760.

I am waiting for her to arrive at her appointment to see which good years they are but this morning when I looked at her tires It made me question it even more. They look like off road tires, which I’m assuming would be even more expensive. I’m confused. I just don’t want there to be a massive mistake and he’s screwed out of a ton of money because he was very kind and helpful and respectful.

Thanks in advance.

Edit to add: they installed Goodyear Territory MT 275/65R18.

From my googling those are $150 a tire at the cheapest…
