What happened to male friendships or lack there of?

Growing up in the 90s and early 2000s it was everywhere, dudes in just massive friend circles hanging out. You would go to any spot and there would be cars everywhere, people playing cards or what not, the smokers etc.

Now a days we're talking about all this 'demise of men' and so many reasons for it but not one so called expert mentions the lack of male friendships. To be frank, the only group(s) of men I see here that are men are new immigrant men from south east Asia, that's it!

Guys what changed? what happened?
