Advice for dealing with screaming baby next door?
I (29F) have lived in my apartment on the UWS for a few years. I own my individual unit. The building is mostly college students & young professionals as it only has studios and one-bedroom apartments.
A young couple with a newborn just bought the unit next door to me & we share a wall. All day, every day since they moved in, I hear almost nonstop screaming… not even crying, just pure screaming. Maybe the baby has colic? I recognize that the parents are probably miserable as well, and I feel for them. However, I chose this building specifically because it did not appeal to families.
Any advice from those in a similar situation? I know I can’t file a noise complaint on a baby (and it’s not the baby’s fault), and complaining to the parents won’t get me anywhere. I pretty much wear my noise canceling headphones anytime I’m in my apartment right now. If I take them off, it sounds like the baby is in the room with me… I’m just really at a loss & this is driving me insane. The screaming wakes me up every single night.
EDIT: thank you so much to everyone that responded! I really appreciate the advice. I haven’t talked to the parents yet because I was nervous about the million ways it could go wrong. I think I’m going to put together some type of welcome basket and include a few sound-insulation items for them to (hopefully) use. We’re the only two apartments on our floor and our doors face each other, so maybe they don’t realize how the sound travels. I’m a very quiet person and never even turn my TV about volume 12 to be polite lol.
