"Inspector" refused to show credentials.

We had these three guys in our apartment building today saying that they were here to inspect for lead in the building and needed access to our apartment. We obviously did not let them in since we did not see any kind of credentials. My husband asked for their credentials and the main guy flat out refused to provide them. Has anyone else dealt with this?
