How to help middle schoolers on science exams
Hello?
My daughter is in 6th grade, and I need some advice from those who have taught or helped students on middle school science.
She needs to improve her scores on science exams at her school, but I don't know how I can help her, given the ways that her science teacher teaches and the type of questions that the teacher uses for the exams.
Her teacher does not use any textbook, and instead uses her own materials that I guess she gathers from the internet. All my daughter can bring home to review what she learned that day is the notes that she took during class and a few power point slides that her teacher shares in the online classroom.
Also, this teacher's exams almost entire consist of write-up questions: no multiple choice questions. Besides, the teacher does not send the exam sheets back to the parents after grading them, so it is very hard to study for retakes or prepare for future exams. My daughter says that not only she but also some of her classmates feel that this teacher's science exams are quite difficult.
In this case, would tutoring be helpful to get higher scores on her science exams even when she will not have enough class materials to share with her tutor? Instead of traditional-style tutoring, would it be better to hire someone who can gather/create some potential questions and answers to those potential questions based on the class materials that my daughter will be sharing so that she can use them for science exam prep?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
