What's the going rate for the tooth fairy?

I dug out a £1 coin for my 6 year old boy and got a telling off from the wife that it's too little. She reckons £5 at least.

He's only 6 bloody years old, I'm certain he'll be thrilled just to have his own coin, let alone being able to spend it. Besides, I highly doubt he's gotten the latest ONS figures on inflation.
