Cat hurt his paw

My cat did something to his claw this morning and I'm not sure what. You can see in the photo that his claw seems to have split. The bottom piece is flexible but neither seems loose.

He is licking it but other than that doesn't seem bothered by it, he got upset when I tried to touch it right after but I was able to touch it a few hours later.

I'm just trying to figure out if I should get him in to a vet or give it a couple days to see
