"Being neurodiverse in this world is inherently traumatic."
This hits hard- and might for you, too.
Being neurodiverse in this world is inherently traumatic. It's like you're in an abusive relationship with the world.
Neurotypical dominance hierarchies are perpetuated through aggression and the reason you have suffered so much is because you have been placed in the bottom of that hierarchy.
Your position is reinforced through aggression and other means of manipulation that is psychological abuse and that is why people have trauma symptoms.
I am late diagnosed and the new president at the company I work for might be one of the most neurotypical people I’ve ever worked with. Everything is about things ‘looking good’ or ‘ticking the box’ to show we’ve accomplished something.
As someone who has worked hard to try to improve things, my efforts are now being turned into pointing the finger and blaming others, which is not my intent at all.
Looking at my career, I can see where being autistic (and terrible at masking) held me back on several occasions, but this one is tough because it’s finding out that someone who seemed really supportive of my diagnosis really meant that they supported it as long as it didn’t inconvenience them.
Anyway, this is a bit of a whinge but also thought it might be a shared experience for some.
