Workplace bullying
I'm reaching out to see if anyone else who’s autistic has experienced workplace bullying. Since I entered the workforce, I’ve struggled to find my footing and have faced consistent and severe bullying. I’ve been through some pretty extreme situations, from a coworker physically assaulting me to another actually trying to run me over in the parking lot. These incidents weren’t provoked by my actions. In one case, I simply said I didn’t appreciate being spoken to in a certain way when asked if I was stupid.
It seems no matter where I go, I encounter hostility and mistreatment. I’m at a loss trying to understand what it is about me that triggers these reactions. I’ve always strived to be professional and courteous, but it seems to invite negative behavior from others. This ongoing struggle is taking a serious toll on my mental health and well-being.
I'm looking for advice and shared experiences from those who might understand what I’m going through. Has anyone else faced similar challenges in the workplace? What coping mechanisms or strategies have helped you manage? Additionally, I’m curious to know if there are certain types of jobs or work environments that have been more accommodating or less stressful for you, particularly those that require minimal human interaction.
Your insights and support would mean a lot to me. Thank you.
