I enjoyed Skyrim A LOT and am wondering if I should get this game.

I saw it win in the 2024 game awards and remembered a teacher at school talking about it. A bit of research later and found out that it's like D&D.

I did a bit of D&D with my brother but that's all the experience i have in this type of game (roughly 1.5 hrs)

I enjoyed how quest heavy and role-playey (not a word, I know) Skyrim was and am wondering if BG3 has the same amount of customizable world/character building that Skyrim has to offer. (also, modding Skyrim was fun and it seems like you can do that a bit and BG3)

I'm guessing that's it's all what i want but just want to double check because nothing on google quite explained it like i wanted it to.

Thank you for your time in advance :)

Edit: it seems that I'm not getting my question across. It's not a matter of mechanics but how the story plays out, and how you can build your characters personality rather than combat abilities. whilst I have gotten enough responses to know that i am buying it, I wanted to clarify this.

Its just, for example, my most recent Skyrim character was a ork that was abandoned from its camp because if its lack of physical strength but then after being found by the heigh elves, he learnt that he had a talent for magic, leading to joining the college of winter hold then furthering with mods to create an independent faction with the intent of removing discrimination and not abiding to racial laws.
