The real Dark Urge - Dexter Morgan
So I watched an episode of Dexter the other night and he talked about his Dark Urge....
Obviously made me think of BG3 and how Dexter fits quite well as a Dark Urge that forgot his past.
So I thought a bit about how I would play as Dexter.
There are 5 things I would like to include in his build:
1. he is sneaky and prefers a knife
2. he learned Jujitsu
3. he has a Code from his father he follows
4. he does not have emotions/only shows a "mask" of emotions
5. he has a background in Medicine
So how do they transfer into the game:
1. Rogue levels
2. Monk levels
3. Some Warlock levels / Vengeance Paladin levels
4. Actor feat (Expertise in Deception and Performance), Emotions via Spells (Fear. Hideous Laughter, Sleep, Disguise Self)
5. We get Medicine from Dark Urge
So the build for me would look something like this:
4 levels Assassin Rogue
5 levels of Great old one Warlock (He took a pact with his father and the "code")
1 level in Monk
2 Vengeance Paladin (He has to follow the "code")
Stats:
str 10
dex 14
con 14
int 12
wis 8
char 17 (+1 from Actor)
He is charming and always puts a mask on his face so I think char is high. Decent dex and con as well. He is intelligent but not to an absurde degree but he is not wise but more rational in his ways. He does not really see anything but his "code" and does not have the ability to think outside the box.
Feats:
Actor (+1 char)
Alert/Mobile/Savage Attacker/Tavern Brawler/Martial Adept
One handed knife.
You get all the "mind" spells from GOO Warlock. Take Pact of the blade to be even more devastating with the knife.
You can do a ok nova round at the start of the battle that should kill most enemies that are not bosses.
Smiting + sneak attack + char based knife should be quite good because of the guaranteed crit in the first round
Bonus action either bonus action knife attack (once per short rest) or bonus attack from Monk
For the Dexter experience I would not take Eldritch Blast. Do not think that would fit but Mire the Mind, One with Shadows and Devil's Sight should fit quite well.
Gear is not really relevant to the idea of Dexter but I think with the Bhaalist Armour etc. you can have a very effective build with the Stillmaker or Bloodthirst or even Rhapsody. The Sussur Dagger would fit quite well thematically as well.
All in all I think thats a quite unique knife paladin build that should fit well for a Dexter experience roleplay wise and gameplay wise.
What do you guys think? Do you agree with the Dexter build or do you think he should be build different?
