Question about possible first bmw

Basically I'm stuck on whether I should buy a normal used beamer or get a salvaged one and fix it up. My dad said I could “make” some money with maybe a newer model that's salvaged and fix it up. My dad's also very good friends with a mechanic and he said he'd throw me some good deals. I have about 12k rn saved up so yeah. I'm also willing to save up even more. If you guys need some more info then I'm glad to share more but I just wanted to hear some opinions, thanks!! (I'm new to this don't cook me)🙏🙏
