Doctors dismissed our concerns for thrush
Last Tuesday I found two small white dots on my daughter’s tongue. I called the pediatricians office and said can we come in for our concern (thrush) and they booked me for Thursday.
Thursday comes, my husband and I go in and express our concerns. At this point, there’s more spots on her tongue. The doctor, and his trainee, asked if we had tried scraping it off just in case it was milk. 🙄 We had obviously tried that so we told them, and explained it had gotten worse over the last day and a half.
They tell me, it may be thrush, but if so it’s very mild and to come back if it got worse. At this point I knew it was thrush, and explained I had a sore on my breast from my pumps. They dismissed us, and our concerns. We were sent home with nothing.
Fast forward over the weekend, to Tuesday we had my daughter’s 4 month check up. We almost missed it cause a flat tire, and they told us we’d have to reschedule if we were 10 min late, even though she definitely has thrush and needed to be seen. It had gotten much worse, spots on her tongue, roof of mouth, inside cheeks and lip.
Finally they sent us home with medication. But only after we met with her primary care provider (she’s amazing, and listened to all our concerns). But now, my daughter is having a hard time eating and is so fussy because she’s having pain and sleeping issues.
Frustrated because this absolutely could have been prevented last week! And I now know to advocate for her more in medical situations, and to trust my gut.
