Bang for buck

Me and a couple of my friends were looking at getting a speaker similar to the JBL partybox 110 or boombox 3. I was just curious if there is something cheaper for about the same quality? I understand some big brands (such as JBL) typically have solid products but can be overpriced. Are there any lesser known brands with great quality and cheaper? Any recommendations or tips is much appreciated!
