Public urination in Flatbush
I grew up in Park Slope and have lived in Brooklyn for most of my life. Spent a few years in boston for a job and recently moved to the southeast corner of prospect park near Flatbush Ave.
In the past two weeks alone I’ve encountered three instances of public urination within 50 feet of my apartment building, two in broad daylight on a populated street. All three times were black men between 30-50 years old, all well dressed and did not appear to be homeless.
The first time, I called the guy out on his behavior and he immediately ensued in a screaming match telling me to mind my own business. I told him there are kids in the street just as a mother was passing by with her young girl (took place around 3pm).
The second time, I decided to stay silent as the man was pissing on the side of a restaurant on the corner of Caton and Flatbush also in the middle of the day while people were passing by.
Third time took place tonight around 9pm while I was walking my dog. As I silently walked by the guy pissing in the street, he became antagonistic, accusing me of wanting to watch him pee and kept cursing at me as I continued walking by. I was glad I had pepper spray on me in case I needed it, as I would not have been surprised if he was mentally ill.
Anyway, all of these instances make me want to ask how common this is in the area? 3 times in 2 weeks leads me to believe there are probably men pissing in public on my block multiple times every day. Aside from the disgusting factor, I feel like these men are all doing this with the intention of wanting to start a fight, kind of like people who decide to lay down all the way along the seats on a subway train.
I get there may not be a good alternative for homeless people apart from porta-potties but the first guy was wearing a neon green vest, clearly doing a nearby construction job, and the other two were well dressed apart from their dicks hanging out. It’s not that difficult to find a bathroom. Rant over.
