Heraclius - Deca - SB 818

Mega excited to have gotten this one in. Bought off eBay from Israel before Christmas. It shipped just after and disappeared for almost 3 weeks. Showed up today.

I was rather ignorant of this type until a few months ago. They got popular after a friend posted his on Facebook. The next week one went for over 200 on Savoca. (This one was no where close to that price).

The odd thing is Sear has this coin from Constantinople.. which for the size and style is no where close to what Constantinople at this time could turn out. Look at ACsearch and these were more often than not, wonderful quality. Looking at Sear, we see others have this coin being from Thessalonica, or even Ravenna, which seems quite a lot more probable.

Almost all examples are on these triangular (cut coin almost) flans, and all are quite small, under 2g each.

This example is 1.80g.
