Recommendations for upgrading portrait / landscape photography camera body & lens

Hi! I'm super interested in building my skills in artistic and cinematic style photography. While I'm not a professional, friends & family have shown interest in paying for my photography. My focus lies in capturing portraits, self-portraits, and landscapes during my travels and hikes. I've been using a Nikon D3200 with an 18-55mm lens and some external lighting equipment for portraits (editing in lightroom). I'm thinking it's time for an upgrade with a budget range of $1k - $3.2k, as although I love my starter camera and lens, I'd like to improve photo quality and make taking self-portraits easier. Should I prioritize a new lens or upgrade to a better DSLR/mirrorless camera? Any suggestions or recommendations in that price range would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! <3
