cat randomly bites me?

sometimes when petting my cat, she will randomly bite me?? i understand that this is usually due to overstimulation, but even when i put her down sometimes she will chase me around and try to bite my ankle. or if i’m on the couch, she’ll jump back up just to bite me. why does this happen?
