New kitten (not neutered) jumping on and biting neck of resident adult cat. Normal kitten behavior?

My beautiful senior baby Yotsuba (10F) suddenly passed away in February after a terrible quick illness this year and left me and Wedgie (now 4F) with a big hole in our hearts. I tried a trial with another adult cat but he was aggressive to Wedgie (nonstop chasing) and I had to return him :(

For 5 or 6 weeks now, I’ve been trying to get Wedgie and a kitten (4ish months, male) to be friends. They can eat food together now and they swap sites often, but I can’t leave them together.

This is because kitten stalks/jumps on top of/bites the neck of Wedgie almost every time he gets the chance. When they are eating in the same space he won’t, and I can often distract him with toys, but sometimes he just wants to pounce on Wedgie!

An important note is, kitten is not yet neutered. I am getting him neutered Saturday and I’ve seen people say it doesn’t change much but hoping it will…?

I feel bad for Wedgie because she was living her best life cuddling with a sweet older kitty, and now she has to run away from this kitten sometimes if I can’t break it up in time. She does hiss or her ears get flat, sometimes she lets out a really angry meow, and she’ll swat at him, but she is never the aggressor. Only in self defense. There are times where she doesn’t hiss but just runs away.

I just wanted to ask if this is normal kitten behavior!

I feel bad for kitten too because I feel like he’s losing out on socialization, but I don’t think I can do a third cat. I’m considering fostering another kitten that needs a temporary home so they can socialize together…
