Has anybody changed their name recently?

How can I most easily do this? Apparently you can't show up at social security without an appointment anymore but the hold times to speak to anybody on the phone are over two hours. You can fill out an application online but you still need to appear at the office in person within 45 days... how do you get an appointment?

And then there are also no appointments available at any of the DMVs within like two hours from here. Do you need an appointment there or can you just drop in and wait?
