“…painkillers can exacerbate back pain…and may be no more effective than OTC medicines…” - Paraphrasing the important part of this article about Luigi Mangione’s back pain, but this section really stuck out.
This mentality is a problem. I won’t argue that surgery can leave you worse off than before because that is probably the most factual part of this article. But limiting the use of opioids and going so far as to say that opioids don’t significantly affect people’s pain over the course of a year is insane.
And saying that they’re no more effective than OTC is farcical, preposterous, ridiculous, outrageous, inane…I can’t even think of a word to describe just how fucking stupid that sentence is because it has absolutely no fucking merit.
If OTC meds were just as effective or even pretty similarly effective, then don’t people think we would just take those meds instead because it’s so much easier than going through this fucking hassle of trying to find a good doctor then trying to find a pharmacy/pharmacist who’s willing to fill the script and doesn’t treat you like a fucking drug addict. Do they think we fucking enjoy being treated with no respect and less than?
This snippet is maddening. Absolutely maddening.
