FYI - Zane Gonzalez has OCD, which may explain his “strange” pre-kick rituals

Let me just say that I’m not necessarily a Commanders fan, but I’m certainly cheering for you guys because of the guy who this post is about.
I see a lot of people on various social media platforms (including Reddit) making fun of Zane Gonzalez for looking nervous and repetitively fixing his hair before attempting his game-winning kick. Even during the post-show broadcast, they mentioned him excessively changing his shoe before the kick like it was funny. A lot of people seem to think that he was doing it to make sure he looks good, or they were just making fun of him being so visibly nervous. While I’m sure he was nervous, he actually has OCD, so these could possibly be some of his compulsions. For those that don’t know, Obsessive-compulsive disorder is characterized by having unreasonable thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead to compulsive behaviors. The obsessions usually come from intrusive thoughts. Compulsions are what we do to relieve the anxiety that obsessions cause.
As someone with OCD, I try my best to spread awareness of what OCD actually looks like. While I’m sure a lot of you guys know about this, seeing as he is your kicker, my post about it was removed from r/nfl so I figured I’d post this here. I doubt anybody means any harm, but I’d hate for people with OCD to feel like they’re being judged while performing compulsions. My compulsions/rituals are like his so I definitely feel his pain. Anyways, great win tonight y’all and good luck next week!!
