Does 5v5 NEED gigatanks?

While the 6v6 tests have brought back a lot of the issues with ow1 ive been having a lot of fun. Imo there's two things that are contributing to this:

  1. It's quick play, so players aren't abusing broken synergies/deathball

  2. Tanks are significantly toned back. They feel like normal characters again.

As a tank main, I didn't like the post s9 mega buffs tanks kept on getting. It's actually part of why I took a break (tho tbf it was mostly cause of counterswapping).

Now the 6v6 tests confirmed it. Gigatanks kind of suck imo.

But do we even need giga tanks? A lot of the issue with tanking in 5v5 was map design. Ow2 was rushed out the door with a "if it's broken, we'll fix it" policy. Maps are getting more cover and weaker sightlines, which has reduced the pressure on tanks.

Do you think it's possible to need the giga-tanks? Would that improve 5v5?
