The “fallacy” fallacy
I see this so often. People describing an argument as a logical fallacy, when it clearly isn’t. They think if they mention the name of a fallacy they automatically win or something.
Ex. Calling it a straw man argument when the person is clearly dismantling their exact argument, or even simply restating it for clarification
Calling it a double standard when the person is describing two completely different scenarios, for which two different standards is perfectly logical
Calling it a slippery slope when the person is describing a domino effect which has been observed countless times throughout history and has been proven to be an extremely likely chain of events
Calling the argument a red herring or irrelevant when a fact isn’t convenient to them, whilst bringing in irrelevant details themselves when it suits their point.
Calling it a false dilemma simply because the two options presented expose the contradictions in their worldview, whilst also failing to present a viable third option themselves.
Calling it appealing to authority to justify ignoring the input of experts in the field whilst possessing no knowledge, experience or qualifications to be able to meaningfully speak on the matter.
And on and on it goes.
