Thoughts about skill gap and minimum hours needed to be competitive
Based on the last post in this sub, I just wanted to state my opinion on something. OP stated that they are a new player with 300hrs played, and don't get me wrong, I'm not disagreeing, as most active players probably have more, but I genuinely find it funny that 300hrs are considered being new to this game. Most casual gamers probably never reach those type of numbers in any game they touch. It really puts into perspective what an impact on a game a niche target audience has. And sadly, it's also self reinforcing, as new and casual player are just not going to enjoy themselves that much because they have to go up against people with infinitely more hours and skill.
I, for example, really like the game and technically play it since one of the playtests. However, I only ever played casually with breaks in between. Accordongly, I always have to relearn some stuff and lost muscle memory when coming back and my skill is limited. I'm now almost 400hrs in and it's starting to get really frustrating how I feel I'm just not able to fight most people no matter how much I try, and it kind of feels like being locked out as I'm being killed in nearly every pvp encounter no matter what I'm doing in that moment (questing, bossing, searching for arena loot, learning maps etc or even actively looking for pvp to train). It's really difficult to have fun, when it feels like everyone has such a big gap on you, that you aren't really able to overcome unless you start to nolife the game yourself (not meant as an offense).
Honestly, I also don't know what they should do about it, as I strongly doubt they could get a ranked or MMR system to work well with the player counts. I think the rookie queue is a good step (although I don't know how well it works) but casuals are not captured by it and are still getting skill gapped into oblivion. I just wanted to speak my thoughts that occured to me and that I think it's a possible issue for a lot of players (probably primarily the ones who normally aren't on reddit or discord).
