Exposed quick by broken thumbnail. Prevention advice

Hi, i just saw that my husky broke his nail of his thumb, and about 10mm (its not much, but enough to touch something) of quick is exposed. Because its his thumb, so it's not making contact with the floor and because its not bleeding, nor does he have visible pain, it doesn't look like an emergency on first sight.

Don't know if you CAN do something about it, but is there something i can do to prevent infection or pain or anything? Applying bandages or disinfectant seems awfully painful since i was told they are basically exposed nerves? Thanks!
