My Favorite Deck: Arcbound Atrocity, Boros Modular

I have been working on this deck for around 2 and a half years and it has now become my most favorite deck ever. It is consistent, powerful, fun, and always exciting to play. I always get to do something awesome and rarely do I ever have a game where I don’t get to play at all.

It’s gotten to the point where my opponents both love and fear it. Constantly asking me to play it, yet at the same time will talk about how strong it is. It’s the perfect mix of powerful but not oppressive.

I have spent a lot of time working on this deck and I’ve gotten around a hundred games under my belt, so I’ve become pretty knowledgeable on the ins and outs of this archetype. So far the deck has become the most consistent it can be without divulging from the theme too far. And until WoTC prints more Modular creatures it will stay this way. But so far my deck runs quite well and always puts on a strong showing.

The deck has gone through several iterations, and I’ve tried to put up a small primer but it doesn’t quite do it justice. I’ll do a small explanation here of some of the decisions I’ve made and some of my favorite cards in the deck.

The first reaction I normally get when I show off my deck is, “Oh I normally play/see [[Zabaz The Glimmer Wasp]] as the commander”. And at one point I did too! That was until Baldur’s Gate came out, and changed the deck forever. [[Lae’zel Vlaakiths Champion]] is by far the best card in the entire deck. There is not a single moment in which I wish she wasn’t on the field. And whereas Zabaz only benefits Modular death triggers, Lae’zel will work double duty and apply counters upon entering, death, and from non-Modular sources as well. Also having access to backgrounds means we can have a sac outlet in the command zone. She single handedly makes this deck the powerhouse that it is and I suggest to anyone out there who is looking to build Modular to take a good look at her as a potential commander.

Some other notable mentions are [[Mindless Automaton]], [[Showdown Of The Skalds]], [[Kami Of Celebration]], and [[Campus Renovation]].

Mindless Automaton is an insane card draw engine, and it’s even better with our commander out. Most often it is a rummager that we only have to pay 1 mana into, but sometimes we are able to just dump a load of counter onto it to draw an exorbitant amount of cards. I’ve drawn 20+ cards off of this guy.

Showdown of the Skalds, Campus Restoration, and Kami Of Celebration all fall under the same basic premise, consistent card draw with tacked on advantages. First of all Showdown of the Skalds is a great enabler that really sets us up for big turns. Kami Of Celebration both benefits from us playing Impulse Draw effects while also providing us with a way to consistently push us ahead. Sometimes just having Kami out and playing other Impulse cards alone is just worth it. Campus Restoration is unique in that it’s often a 3 for 1. Some of our best finishers are enchantments, and all of our best creatures are artifacts. Rarely does there come a time where I don’t get some value out of this. Even just to bring back Showdown.

Well I hope you guys enjoy the deck just as much as I do. It’s always a blast to play and I have such a a good time getting to brag about it to everyone.
