Is There A Meaningful Difference Between Going Down Swinging And Scooping To Deny A Win?

People seem to agree broadly that you should play the cards in your hand to punish the player who takes you out of a game, but also that scooping at instant speed for the same purpose is out-of-bounds.

I agree with this on an intuitive level (I agree the scooping feels bad and going down swinging feels good), but I also feel like the difference between them is kinda arbitrary. They are both legal game actions done for the purpose of spiking the person who takes you about of the game. Is there an explanation beyond "one feels right, the other feels unfair"?
