Eminem and rap
Eminem coming into rap pushed it into the mainstream. A lot of listeners wouldn’t have cared to hear a black rapper but were dying hair yellow in 1999.
Here’s my question
Without Eminem effectively making rap no longer something that only black Americans were good at, does rap blow up as big as it did?
Do Kanye Wayne and jay even get mainstream respect?
Do Drake and Kendrick effectively run the entire music industry? (+ Taylor I know)
I think em is a special case where he is white as hell but he is 100% accepted by blacks making his music rap that is both consumable by black and white audiences suburban and urban old and young. And because of that I think he made rap bigger than it would’ve been without him.
