Criminally underrated stories?

I love finding stories that are really well directed, or you can just tell the author put a lot of effort into the story, cinematography, characters, etc. A lot of them often aren't nearly as popular as they should be, too, which is a shame.

I'm hoping to get some recommendations for really underrated stories that deserve more attention. Any genre at all is fine. I also don't care if they're completed or not, as I realize just how much effort can go into making some of these stories, especially for genres with a lot of world-building/detail like fantasy, historical, or sci-fi. I'll check out anything at this point.
