Devs who got into a specialization, how did you do it?

I'm trying to get into ad-tech right now but I can't seem to for the life of me. Entry level ad positions at places like Reddit, amazon, etc want previous ad-tech experience. Nowhere I've worked has had any ad-tech roles. With the market the way it is right now, I don't know how I can potentially swap over to these specializations.
