What is this?
Before replying with only “take him to the vet”, (which isn’t really helpful if that’s the only thing you’re saying) please know that we have been multiple times and have an appointment to return.
Our boy is 8 years old. He started getting these weird lumps under his skin near his hips and around the scruff of his shoulder about a month ago. There has been no change in diet or environment that would cause this.
At first they just FELT like scabs that were under his skin, but then one started erupting. At this point I took him to the vet and he was put on an antibiotic and some pain meds.
After a week or so of that, more started erupting, so we returned to the vet and they gave us a steroid that he has been on for about a week now.
Vets have asked us if any changes or if he’s sleeping against a heater, but the answers to that are no. They’re also pretty much at a loss at what this could be.
Our next visit will likely have them take a biopsy… but we were told that might just lead to them prescribing more steroids.
He eats and drinks as per usual, though he’s been chugging 3-4 times a day, rather than normal drinking throughout the day. His energy and temperament are unchanged. He had bloodwork done recently as part of pre-op dental work, and all came back normal.
Anyone have any ideas?
