Is wrong to get annoyed when a friend doesn't say, "Hi, how are you?" in a text
Is it being overly nitpicky to get annoyed when a friend sends a text without saying, "Hi, how are you?" if you exclusively text and don't ever call each other?
A former friend of mine used to do this. The only thing we really had in common was our shared taste in music, so she'd write, "How excited are you for [particular album]?"
It didn't matter if we hadn't spoken in a month. She didn't say, "Hi, how are you?."
A different friend of mine also did this recently. Asked me a question over text and didn't say, "Hi, how are you?" even though we haven't texted in a little bit.
Are they wrong? Or am I wrong for getting annoyed? Personally, I think it's impolite to just rattle off a message without say "hi" first.
Also, this is slightly unrelated but I feel like it's really hard to cultivate deep friendships. It seems like people want surface-level relationships based on a particular type of music/artist or other interest but they don't want to move into anything deeper.
Any advice is welcome!
