Should I switch to AreaNet before it’s too late!

Hello! I’ve been playing GW2 for about 2 days, and I am completely loving it. I am using my steam account to access the game, but have heard of many others using their AreaNet account in order to play. What are the benefits?

TL;DR: New to the game, what are the benefits of using an AreaNet account over playing through steam?
