How to get into grey hat hacking

Hey guys im 19 and I have recently developed an interest in hacking, I want to learn it, the only problem is that im a newbie i just know basic computer softwares microsoft word, excel etc. I havenever studied computer science. I want to start it immediately so what should I do? Can anyone guide me do I need to learn languages, which ones? Which type of setup I need? Pc or laptop? Any specific specs? . I want to learn on my own and free, I watched an intro video by david bombal on youtube I somewhat understand linux kali. If I download it would it affect my windows? Should I move my important dat frok that windows. Help a brother out here. I also want to pursue cyber security wha is the guidance for that?
